1. Ho Ching Lin's Solid Gold birthday celebration

They say 50 is the golden age, and Ho Ching Lin feted her big 50 quite literally with a solid gold celebration. An accomplished eye surgeon and Singapore Tatler 2016 Style Award winner, the birthday girl certainly has an eye for style. The festivities took place over a weekend in Kuala Lumpur, where Nobu restaurant was gilded in gold for an Instagram-worthy birthday feast. Then, the party of 70 moved to Bar Trigona at the new Four Seasons Hotel for more merrymaking until the wee hours, when the guests returned to their hotel rooms to clock in some precious sleep. The two-day celebration ended on a joyous note with a hearty farewell breakfast the next morning.

2. Grace Wong's Black Society-themed 60th birthday party

Straight out of a Hong Kong film, Grace Wong played the role of a triad boss during her black society-themed 60th birthday party. Guests played the part dressed in chic getups, accessorised with temporary tattoos, toy cigarettes, sunglasses, and even headgear splattered with fake blood. The lady boss herself was clad in a tattoo-print ensemble, complete with sunglasses and gold chains. The celebrations kicked off with a sword fight between two bodyguards, followed by an eight-course Chinese dinner. Funds raised that evening went to support Make-A-Wish Singapore, a cause which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.

3. Alex Low's 50th birthday celebration

It was the best of both worlds for Alex Low's 50th birthday celebrations, who managed to combine the two big loves of his life—cars and pop culture in a Star Wars-themed birthday bash. The tea room at Fullerton Bay Hotel was transformed into the set of the sci-fi film, complete with light sabers, fighter pods, and characters from the series. The man of the hour himself took to the throne dressed as Kylo Ren, while his wife Angela Ngoh played the part of Rey. Outside the hotel, a fleet of Ferraris from his fellow members at the Ferrari Owners Club Singapore lined the driveway as they came in full force to join the celebrations. Despite choosing the Dark Side, the Supreme Leader did his part for charity, with generous donations raised towards the Make-A-Wish Foundation that evening.

4. Fanty Soenardy’s Silver Glitter 45th birthday

Turning 45 was a glittery affair for Fanty Soenardy, who threw an intimate silver themed bash at Buono Terra for some 50 boisterous guests. Awarded the Style Disrupter at the Tatler Fashion Awards 2018, the birthday girl showed off her flair for fashion in a silver and black ensemble, accessorised with a silver bodychain. The night was fuelled by copious amounts of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs and Hennessy, complete with over-the-top shenanigans—including two fabulous three-tier cakes, topped with sparklers for the finishing touch.

5. Life Is Still A Cabaret: Peggy Jeffs' birthday bash

Known for her love of sequins, feathers, and dramatic headgear, Peggy Jeffs' birthday party was, of course, no quiet affair. The star of the night brought friends and family back to the roaring 20s with a cabaret-themed soiree at the Tanglin Club. Guests paid tribute to the birthday girl's inimitable style in headdresses of all shapes and sizes, from bejewelled turbans to pearly skull caps. No one could outdo Peggy's however—the society doyenne's 50cm-high feathered headpiece stole the spotlight and stood firm through the night's merrymaking. The fabulous celebration culminated with the cutting of the birthday cake, surrounded by 101 candles—as Peggy puts it, "when you're enjoying life, who cares what age you are?"
