5/15 Commonwealth Day 2018

What The year 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the modern Commonwealth and to celebrate, The Royal Commonwealth Society of Singapore will be hosting its biggest fete yet at Eden Hall, the residence of British high commissioner Scott Wightman. The programme this year includes a fashion show based on the theme of “Avant Garde Islamic/Modesty Wear”, featuring models in ensembles made from recycled materials and plastic.

What With over 100 concerts worldwide under their belt, the eclectic musical trio Sophie de Quay & The WaveGuards heads to Asia to perform in Singapore (14 and 15 March at Andaz Singapore), China and Japan. Fronted by charming and sophisticated singer Sophie and multi-instrumentalists Simon and Tim, the group performs their original songs with lyrics in French, English and some Mandarin, reflecting their global upbringing and unrestricted approach to music making.

11/15 SCWO International Women's Day Gala Dinner 2019 & 6th SWHF Induction Ceremony

What Eight outstanding women, all change-makers in their own right, will be inducted into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame (SWHF) at a gala dinner held at The St Regis Hotel Singapore. They include former Nanyang Girls’ School principal, the late Liew Yuen Sien, who moulded the minds of generations of Singapore women; the late Zahrah Za’ba, a pioneer of Malay broadcasting during the 1950s and ’60s; and Cultural Medallion recipient Tham Yew Chin, who has authored nearly 200 books under the pen name You Jin. SWHF was launched in 2014 by the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations as part of its annual International Women’s Day celebrations.

What Masters of electronic dance pop, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, aka the Pet Shop Boys, bring their Super Tour to Asia for the first time with a one‑night only concert at The Star Theatre.

13/15 Orbis International Annual Charity Gala

When March 28

What With its eyes set on Vietnam and Myanmar this year, Orbis International will hold its annual charity gala at Marina Bay Sands to raise funds for its Flying Eye Hospital, a travelling facility that will visit both Southeast Asian countries to deliver eye treatments to their local communities. On site, the Orbis team will also mentor and train the local medical teams in the prevention and treatment of avoidable blindness.

What This year’s edition of the Singapore theatre series by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay journeys through five stories, told by different voices, across different times, including Cake’s Rubber Girl on the Loose. At the Esplanade Theatre Studio and Annexe Studio.

15/15 The Jazz Association (Singapore) Benefit Gala Dinner

What The Jazz Association (Singapore) looks to broadway for inspiration this year, titling its biennial benefit gala dinner, Some Enchanted Evening, after the hit tune from the 1949 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, South Pacific. And what an enchanting evening it promises to be as two jazz maestros—American vocalist Kenny Washington and Singaporean icon Jeremy Monteiro—are set to serenade guests at the gala dinner at the Tower Ballroom of Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore.
