A partial solar eclipse, which is also known as the 'ring of fire', is set to light up the skies on June 10 and we could not be more excited to witness this special and rare occurrence for ourselves.

Unfortunately, the annular solar eclipse, which was last seen here in 2019 on December 26, will not be visible in Singapore. In fact, it will mostly only be visible in Russia, Greenland, and northern Canada between 4.12 pm to 9.11 pm (SGT).

However, there is still a way that you can view it today. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada is collaborating with Timeanddate.com to host a livestream of the solar eclipse that you can watch anywhere in the world.

The livestream will begin at 5 pm Singapore time and you can watch it on Youtube while participating in a live chat with fellow viewers around the world.

Above Annular Solar Eclipse - June 10, 2021

The results of this ring of fire will occur when the moon passes in front of the sun but isn't close enough to Earth to fully block out the solar disk.

This will leave a ring of light that will shine through in a partial solar eclipse. This is different from a total solar eclipse which will see sunlight being blocked out completely.

If you are planning to catch the partial solar eclipse this evening, make sure you set a reminder for yourself and tune in for the spectacular sight.
