The star was diagnosed with Covid-19 early in the pandemic last year and almost died as a result of it

Actress Salma Hayek has revealed her near-fatal battle with Covid-19 after being diagnosed last year and keeping it a secret.

In an interview with Variety Magazine, the House Of Gucci star admitted that she had tested positive for the virus in the early days of the pandemic in 2020 and her condition was severe.

"My doctor begged me to go to the hospital because it was so bad. I said, 'No, thank you. I'd rather die at home'," said the Mexican-American actress candidly.

She added that she had to be isolated in her home in London for seven weeks and that she was put on oxygen to help her breathe.

The star said that she spent most of last year recovering from her infection and that even till today, she has not regained the energy she used to have.

Throughout this ordeal, Hayek chose to keep fans unaware of her struggles. While she did share a video on Instagram of her undergoing multiple Covid-19 swab tests in November last year, she did not at that time mention that she had gotten the virus.

Despite her tumultuous battle with the disease and her difficult recovery, Hayek returned to filming House of Gucci last month.

In the crime drama, which will also feature Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, she plays a clairvoyant who has been convicted of helping to plan a murder.

"It was not a lot of time. It was easy. It was the perfect job to just get back into it. I had started doing Zooms at one point, but I could only do so many because I would get so tired," she said.
