Watched everything new on Netflix? We're letting you know the latest TV shows and movies coming to the platform this March

From new Korean dramas to original movies, book adaptations and more, the hype for Netflix has never been more real. Only made more prominent of course, with much of the world staying put at home, unable to travel. And though social distancing restrictions in Singapore have eased since Phase 3 begun, we're fairly sure we'll still carve out some time to watch the latest releases.

From a docu-film on the life of iconic rapper The Notorious B.I.G., to a deep dive into the 2019 college admissions scandal, and a supernatural take on Sherlock Holmes, here's what not to miss on Netflix this March.

1. Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell

This new Netflix documentary celebrates the life of famed late rapper The Notorious B.I.G.––with the film primarily covering his journey prior to his ascent to rap legend, with the film's tag line reading "every legend has an origin story".

Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell is set to feature rare clips and in depth interviews with his friends and family, including executive producers Sean "Diddy" Combs and Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace.  

Release date: March 1

2. Moxie

Directed by Amy Poehler and based on the novel by Jennifer Mathieu, Moxie follows a shy 16-year-old (Hadley Robinson) who is fed up with the sexist and toxic status quo at her high school.

Taking inspiration from her mother's (Poehler) rebellious past, she anonymously publishes an underground magazine that unexpectedly sparks a a school-wide, coming-of-age revolution.

Release date: March 3

3. Bombay Rose

Set to be released on International Women's Day (March 8), Bombay Rose is Netflix's first animated film from India which chronicles the struggles of people who migrate to Bombay from small towns.

Based on true events, the film explores the ruthlessness of a society where the love and life that reigns on the big screen can crush you in its mean streets, as it weaves together three stories of love through the journey of a red rose.

Release date: March 8

4. Marriage or Mortgage

If you could choose, would you pick a blow-out wedding or the keys to your dream home? An all-to-real problem for many, this new series poses the question to real-life couples, with the help of Nashville-based wedding planner Sarah Miller and real estate agent Nichole Holmes.

Sure to strike a cord with viewers in the same situation, Marriage or Mortgage follows the pair as they compete to win the hearts and budgets of the spouses-to-be.

5. The One

Set in a world where a DNA test can find your perfect partner, The One is Netflix's latest sci-fi series––with a twist––set to hit the platform March 12.

Based on the psychological thriller by John Marrs, the new series poses the question of how far we would go to find your perfect match––if a simple hair sample was it all took for you to find The One, would you?

For the eight episode run, Netflix has teamed up with Misfits creator Howard Overman and has released little info so far (including no official trailer), keeping audiences in the dark as to what the series may reveal. 

Release date: March 12

6. Waffles + Mochi

Follow former First Lady, Michelle Obama, in her new children’s series, Waffles + Mochi, coming to Netflix on March 16.

The 10-episode series will star Obama as a supermarket owner who goes on food adventures with her puppet co-stars, Waffles and Mochi. The show follows the two puppets as they grow tired of eating ice and dream of becoming chefs one day. To make their dreams come true, the trio travels the world through their magical flying shopping trolley to discover different kinds of home-cooked food. 

Made in collaboration with Partnership for a Healthier America, a non-profit initiative that works to combat child obesity. When reflecting on the series, Obama said, "I only wish Waffles + Mochi had been around when my daughters were growing up, because it's the kind of programme that's fun to watch together as a family, and gives parents the peace of mind to know that their little ones are learning something, too,” reported BBC. 

Release date: March 16

7. Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal

Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal takes a deep-dive into the 2019 college admissions scandal which set out to assist children of wealthy backgrounds to get into top schools––and included celebrities such as actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin.

As front page news when the story erupted, the documentary film is set to be an unmissable release this March, with director Chris Smith well-versed in the world of scandalous dramas having directed Fyre, a look into the disastrous Fyre Festival, along with executive producing Tiger King, one of Netflix's biggest hits of 2020.

Release date: March 17

8. The Irregulars

Set in Victorian London The Irregulars follows a crew of teenagers living on the streets as they investigate a series of dark crimes.

Featuring a sinister Dr. Watson and his mysterious associate, Sherlock Holmes, the new series casts an alternate look at the typical Holmes and Watson stories––adding a supernatural element to the historical storyline, along with portraying the famed detective as taking much of the credit for the misfits sleuth work in this dark and eerie tale.

Release date: March 26
