Watched everything new on Netflix? We're letting you know the latest TV shows and movies coming to the platform this April

With a long weekend kicking off the start of the month, if you're in need of some downtime, we're letting you know the best new releases to watch.

Be sure to still make time for a movie night; from the fantastical adaptation of Shadow and Bone, to David Attenborough's latest docu-series, K dramas, true crime and more. here's what to watch on Netflix this April.

1. Worn Stories

If your clothes could talk, what would they say? Netflix's new series delves into the tales and meaning behind articles of clothing––be it a pair of boots symbolising survival, a dress that’s come to stand for recovery, or a uniform that reaffirms an identity, the series illuminates the lives of the wearers through stories about cherished articles of clothing. 

Promising to be funny, tragic, poignant, and celebratory, each episode features interviews from cultural figures and talented storytellers, along with animated sequences and archival footage to bring these Worn Stories to life.

2. The Wedding Coach

We've had Indian Matchmaking, The Big Day and even Love Is Blind, and now comes The Wedding Coach

Featuring comedian Jamie Lee, this funny and heartwarming series offers tips for couples on how to survive the stressful, and sometimes ridiculous, expectations of “Big Bridal.” The series follows Jamie as she intervenes before and on the wedding day, serving up her refreshing, real-talk perspective on the bridal industry, putting the drama to one side and helping them focus on the big picture.

3. This Is A Robbery: The World’s Biggest Art Heist

Love true crime? This docu-series tells the story of how two men conned their way into the Boston art museum––pulling off one of the biggest art heists in history.

Taking place over St. Patrick’s Day weekend in 1990, legendary works by Rembrandt, Vermeer and others, which would be worth over half a billion dollars today, were stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. This four-part documentary series from director Colin Barnicle covers the leads, dead ends, lucky breaks and speculations that characterised the investigation of this still-unsolved mystery.

4. Night In Paradise

Night In Paradise is the latest K drama film to hit Netflix, focusing on the life of former mobster Uhm Tae-goo.

After his sister and nephew are murdered because he tried to leave his gang, Tae-goo flees to Jeju Island where he meets Jae-yeon, a terminally ill woman who has seemingly given up on life.

Release date: April 9

5. Thunder Force

Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer suit up in this new action-comedy coming this April. The pair play two childhood best friends who reunite as an unlikely crime-fighting superhero duo after one invents a formula that gives ordinary people superpowers.

In a world where super villains are commonplace, the duo team up to save Chicago from the clutches of The King (Bobby Cannavale). Also co-starring Jason Bateman.

6. My Love: Six Stories of True Love

Korean director Jin Moyoung expands his acclaimed documentary My Love, Don't Cross That River into this poignant global series My Love: Six Stories of True Love.

Coming to Netlix on April 13, the series follows local filmmakers from six countries around the world as they follow one elderly couple––who have been together for anywhere from 43 to 60 years––through a year in their lives. From the Korean seaside to Rio, the suburbs of Tokyo, the rural farmland in India, Spain, and the U.S.; couples share the stories and the secrets of their long-lasting love.

Release date: April 13

7. Ride or Die

Based on Ching Nakamura’s comic Gunjo, Ride Or Die is a Japanese thriller telling the tale of two women––one who kills for a love, and the other who made her kill.

Reunited for the first time since high school, the pair's happiness is short lived as one has suffered from domestic violence at the hands of her husband, and the other devices a plan on how to deal with him.

Release date: April 15

8. Life in Colour with David Attenborough

The famed broadcaster and natural historian is back on Netflix this Earth Day with the three-part series, Life in Colour with David Attenborough.

As he travels from from the rainforests of Costa Rica to the snowy Scottish Highlands, Attenborough reveals extraordinary and never-before-seen ways animals use colour. Using revolutionary camera technology created specifically for this series, viewers will experience how colours invisible to the human eye play a vital role in animal interactions––from the seemingly magical ultraviolet signals on a butterfly’s wings, to the surprising yet crucial purpose behind a Bengal tiger’s stripes.

9. Shadow and Bone

Already slated to be one of Netflix’s biggest series debuts of 2021, Shadow and Bone is a new series based on Leigh Bardugo's bestselling Grishaverse novels.

Following orphan mapmaker Alina Starkov, whose magical powers make her a target in a war-torn world, season one sees Alina struggle to hone her power, as she finds that allies and enemies can be one and the same in her lavish world where nothing is what it seems.
