Michelle Obama is a Supermarket Owner in a New Netflix Children’s Series, Waffles + Mochi
Shortly after former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama announced their upcoming projects in collaboration with Netflix, the former first lady reveals a brand new children’s cooking show entitled Waffles + Mochi that’s set to debut on March 16, 2021.
The public announcement was made on Twitter with an attached photo of her and her cuddly co-stars. In the tweet, Obama shared her excitement for the new show, “I’m beyond thrilled to share that on March 16, I’ll be launching a new show on Netflix called Waffles + Mochi! I'm excited for families and children everywhere to join us on our adventures as we discover, cook, and eat delicious food from all over the world.”
The 10-episode series will star Obama as a supermarket owner who goes on food adventures with her adorable puppet co-stars, Waffles and Mochi. The show follows the two puppets as they grow tired of eating ice and dream of becoming chefs one day. To make their dreams come true, the trio travels the world through their magical flying shopping trolley to discover different kinds of home-cooked food.
The show is part of a collaboration project with Partnership for a Healthier America, a non-profit initiative that works to combat child obesity. The former first lady has long been an advocate for healthy eating, even sharing her family struggles on the issue in 2010 when her two daughters began to gain weight. She went on to fight against child obesity by starting the Let’s Move campaign, which sought to decrease the obesity rate in children in America to 5 per cent by 2030.
When reflecting on her new Netflix show, Obama said, "I only wish Waffles + Mochi had been around when my daughters were growing up, because it's the kind of programme that's fun to watch together as a family, and gives parents the peace of mind to know that their little ones are learning something, too,” reported BBC.
Waffles + Mochi will debut on March 16.
