A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed the news with People magazine

Queen Elizabeth's grandson, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, is about to become an older brother.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced that they are expecting their second child with a black-and-white photo that was shot remotely on an iPad by their friend and longtime photographer, Misan Harriman, who posted the photo on his Instagram page.

The couple's spokesperson confirmed the pregnancy with People magazine, which was first to break the news.

In the photo, The Duchess of Sussex is pictured laying down with her head resting on Prince Harry's leg as they both gaze happily at each other under a tree. She wears a maxi dress by Carolina Herrera that was first made when she was pregnant with Archie, whom she gave birth to in May 2020. Markle is known to be good friends with American designer Wes Gordon, the creative director of Carolina Herrera.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement to CBS News that Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and the entire family are "delighted" by the news.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their roles as senior royals back in January 2020, an announcement that grabbed global headlines. Since then, they have attempted to make the transition into becoming activists. They've also secured deals with Netflix and Spotify, established their non-profit organisation Archewell, spoken up more about socio-political issues such as #BlackLivesMatter and the US presidential election, and more.

It is unclear when Markle is expected to give birth.

The news comes months after she revealed she suffered a miscarriage in July 2020 and detailed the heartbreak and grief that she and Prince Harry had experienced through an opinion piece for The New York Times.
