The elder daughter of former US President Barack Obama has reportedly joined the writing staff for one of Donald Glover's first projects at Amazon

Former US President Barack Obama’s elder daughter, Malia, may be making her writers’ room debut very soon. The 22-year-old Harvard graduate has reportedly joined American singer-actor Donald Glover on his new project for Amazon Prime. He tapped Obama to write for his upcoming TV series, Hive, created by Janine Cabers, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Sources have shared that Hive will be based on a powerful and “Beyoncé-like” character but besides that, not much has been revealed about the plot.

The former First Daughter of the US is no stranger to working behind-the-scenes on a television set. She was formerly an intern on the set of HBO’s Girls, where she worked with Lena Dunham back in 2015.

However, joining Glover’s team of writers to work on a streaming series would mark her first professional entertainment role to date. Glover had grabbed headlines recently for signing multiple-year, eight-figure overall deal with Amazon—a move similar to that of Obama’s famous parents.

The former President and his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama, had signed a lucrative deal with Netflix back in 2018, where they would produce series and movies for the streaming service.

“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” said Barack Obama in an earlier statement.

“That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix—we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

It is unknown how much their Netflix deal was, but the duo have gone on to create several documentaries, including the Oscar-winning American Factory and Becoming, which gives a behind-the-scenes look as Michelle Obama embarked on her book tour. And now Michelle has also recently announced her new Netflix project where she plays a supermarket owner on a kids’ show called Waffles and Mochi.
