Lilibet is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's second child, born last week in California

Kate Middleton may not have met her sister-in-law Meghan Markle in over a year but that doesn’t make her any less excited about her new niece.

The Duchess and Cambridge and US First Lady Dr Jill Biden were at a joint engagement at Connor Downs School in Hayle, Cornwall, when she was asked by an NBC News reporter about her newborn niece, Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

The Duchess was asked: “Do you have any wishes for your new niece, Lilibet?”

With a huge smile, Kate graciously replied: “Oh I wish her all the very best, I can’t wait to meet her!

“We haven’t yet met so hopefully, that will be soon!”

Lilibet is Harry and Meghan’s second child; they are also parents to two-year-old Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, born in 2019.

Like her older brother, she has already been thrust into the spotlight; the most recent case was when the BBC claimed that her parents did not ask the Queen for permission before naming their daughter after her.

Prince Harry and Meghan quickly retaliated by saying she was the first royal family member that they had spoken to after Lilibet’s birth.

“During that conversation, he (Harry) shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honour,” their spokesperson said. “Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”

Since the couple stepped back from royal life and moved to California, the House of Windsor has been rocked by various controversies—with the biggest being Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah.

During the interview, they accused the British royal family of racism among other claims. Meghan also spoke about how Kate had made her cry ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry, contrary to media reports which had claimed otherwise back then.
