The global grassroots movement takes place this Saturday to urge and unite people to protect the environment. Here's how you can get involved
There has never been a more urgent time to protect our planet. In the past year alone, the world has witnessed devastating fires, droughts and extreme weather conditions as a result of rising global temperatures, with scientific reports stating that the years 2016 and 2020 tied as the warmest years on record. Now more than ever, it's our time to play an active part in addressing these environmental issues, and you can do so no matter where you're situated in the world through the global grassroots movement this Saturday at 8.30pm your local time.
1. Pledge to help Singapore achieve net-zero emissions by 2050
As part of the World Wide Fund for Nature's (WWF) efforts for Earth Hour this year, the non-governmental organisation launched its latest digital campaign, the Singapore Kosong Plan, to rally individuals and business organisations together to help achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Participation is simple: the public can pledge their commitment to take action in five different areas in order to reduce their carbon emissions. From eating consciously to choosing renewable energy, their efforts will contribute to reducing Singapore's overall carbon emissions over the years. Businesses can also pledge to demonstrate their leadership in the field of climate change by committing their efforts towards a low carbon future.
