Make your way to the theatres this month for a dynamic line-up of live performances by homegrown companies, and celebrate the achievements of the women in your life on International Women’s Day

The month of March marks many occasions, one of which is International Women's Day where we celebrate the amazing women in each others' lives. Those who wish to be in the company of leading ladies can head to the Ruby Anniversary Dinner by the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations, while theatre companies Wild Rice and The Necessary Stage showcase productions of Model Citizens and The Other F Word—both helmed by female theatre stalwarts this month.

1. Singapore Streets

What Witness the works of Singapore-based artist and designer Louise Hill at the Art Space located within Siri House Dempsey. For the next three months, Hill showcases a selection of limited-edition hand-finished giclee prints that feature the sights and sounds of Singapore and an array of Chinoiserie-styled designs for viewers to peruse. 2. Space Furniture Asia

3. The Ballroom of Magnificent Beasts

What Part of the National Arts Council’s annual Got to Move nationwide dance movement, this family-friendly digital dance project will help keep your little ones occupied during the school holidays, while also engaging everyone to experience dance in new ways. It consists of two augmented reality filters by The Arts Fission Company on Instagram, so families can seek a playful adventure at home and have members take on the role of a wild beast-like avatar in a fantasy realm through dance movements.

4. March On

What Specially curated for young families, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay’s newest children’s festival features six programmes spanning music, theatre and dance. Among them is Alice’s Topsy Turvy Tea Party, a picnic‑style interactive dance experience by The Kueh Tutus artist collective that explores the topics of friendship and belonging. Kids are encouraged to participate and come dressed in their party best.

5. Marlborough College Malaysia: Singapore Admissions Evening

What To induct its newest batch of students and give parents a chance to view the boarding school's outstanding 90-acre premises and education curriculum, academic staff and pupils from Marlborough College Malaysia will helm its admissions event for prospective Singapore-based students for three evenings only. 

The Malaysia-based boarding school provides students with the opportunity to embark on the UK National curriculum, International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and International Baccalaureate Diploma. 6. The Sound Inside

What Featuring homegrown thespians Serene Chen and Krish Natarajan, this Singapore Repertory Theatre adaptation of the gripping drama by American playwright Adam Rapp traces the lives of two brilliant but social misfits as they connect and bond with each other.

7. Jass Benefit Gala: Let There Be Love

What In celebration of its fifth anniversary this year, the Jazz Association (Singapore), the first charity dedicated to developing jazz education here and its global outreach, is hosting a virtual gala to raise funds for its various programmes, including a recent initiative that provides short-term financial aid to jazz musicians. Guests will be treated to a specially curated dinner, alongside performances by acclaimed jazz diva, Laura Fygi. Singapore’s own “King of Swing” Jeremy Monteiro will also be performing a medley of jazz tunes accompanied by the association’s orchestras.

8. Living Boldly: An International Women's Day Special

What Tune into a live session with Singaporean actor Pam Oei and musician Benjamin Kheng as they chat about their personal stories on breast cancer, alongside research scientist Li Jing Mei and breast cancer survivor Evelyn Ong. Hosted by the Breast Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organisation that aims to eradicate the life-threatening disease.

9. Casa

What Art Porters Gallery plays host to British fine artist Chloë Manasseh's latest solo exhibition, who traces her Sephardic roots and reflects on the changing concepts of home and identity over time. Expect wall paintings, tile installations and folding screens that portray Jewish folklore from the artist’s vivid imagination, influenced by her memories of Morocco where her maternal roots reside.

10. The Other F Word

What In an effort to destigmatise the topic of weight, Wild Rice’s latest production features local plus-sized actress Miriam Cheong as she takes the stage to examine her relationship with her body and the body positivity movement, as well as the trials and tribulations of weight loss in a world obsessed with size.

11. Model Citizens

What Coming together for one last hurrah before theatre company The Necessary Stage is evicted from its home within the Marine Parade Community Building later this year, stalwarts Goh Guat Kian, Siti Khalijah Zainal and Karen Tan return for the restaging of playwright Haresh Sharma’s multifaceted play that showcases the relationships between three women, and the disparities between social classes and gender roles that divide us.
