The superstar boy band will be helping to raise the awareness of global agendas to the younger generations through their new appointment

BTS has been on a record-breaking streak lately thanks to the release of their new songs. And it looks like the global pop stars are not slowing down any time soon.

This week, it was announced that the septet has been appointed by South Korean President Moon Jae-in as the Special Presidential Envoy For Future Generations And Culture.

The announcement was made by the South Korean Presidential Office on Wednesday, who said that the appointment was made to "raise awareness on global agendas, such as sustainable development, to our future generations and to strengthen the nation's diplomatic power across the world".

This comes just days after it was announced that BTS became the first act to achieve several Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 debuts in over a year. This was an achievement that was last attained by Michael Jackson between 1987 and 1988.

In his announcement, President Moon talked about BTS' latest song, Permission To Dance and noted that it was significant because it was a song about hope and harmony among different races. He added that it was a great song to encourage South Korea to overcome the pandemic through solidarity and cooperation with the world.

"We anticipate that BTS, who have been spreading a message of hope and positive energy to fans around the world, will take a significant role in representing South Korea as the Special Presidential Envoy in the Covid-19 period," the Presidential Office said.

BTS will also be representing South Korea in a number of global forums including the 75th United Nations (UN) General Assembly in September this year. They have, in the past, spoken at the UN in 2018 and they attended a UN meeting virtually last year.
