How to make the most of your day in our island's latest tech-savvy mall

Since its opening on June 28, the refreshed Funan has continued to draw in crowds that can rival Jewel Changi Airport. Once a shopping mall offering electronics at a bargain, the reopening of Funan positions itself as a technologically-integrated lifestyle mall that offers one-of-a-kind experiences—from KopiTech, a self-service food court that accepts e-payment, to homegrown fashion boutique Love, Bonito, which features an AR walkway for customers. A robot-enabled hands-free shopping and click-and-collect service are also expected to roll out by the end of the year, optimising the retail experience for shoppers.

If you haven't visited the shopping mall, take some time off this weekend as we've rounded up a list of unique experiences not to miss.

1. Start the day with a cuppa at PPP Coffee

Can’t start the day without a cup of joe? Head to PPP Coffee—formerly Papa Palheta—for a quality brew, from unique coffees to an archive of the best roasts constantly curated by the team. Pair them with nonya kuehs—like PPP Coffee’s ondeh ondeh with coffee-infused gula melaka filling—for a local touch. And if you’d rather make your own coffee, the space boasts an experiential brew bar for you to be your own barista.

4. Enjoy a farm-to-table lunch at Noka

A visit to Funan is not complete without touring the first-of-its-kind rooftop urban farm, which is part of restaurant Noka (‘farmhouse’ in Japanese). The 75-seater dining room is helmed by head chef Seki Takuma, who marries Japanese cooking techniques with local ingredients in his contemporary Japanese menu. The 5,000 square-feet urban farm itself grows more than 50 types of fruits, flowers, herbs and vegetables, from oyster mushrooms, butterfly pea flowers to Mexican tarragon. Try the omakase menu by the chef, which is an ever-changing six-course feast based on seasonal produce.
