The Writing Club

Orchard

An overwhelming collection of whiskies from obscure distilleries in Scotland and other parts of the world

What to imbibe: Glenlivet 1972 Single Malt, Ardbeg Single Islay Malt, Organic Ink Gin

Going to the source seems to be one of the biggest trends lately, and the husband and wife duo, Soo San and Sherine from The Writing Club, has followed this ethos to the letter. They have hunted down an overwhelming collection of whiskies from obscure distilleries in Scotland and other parts of the world, such as Scottish Caperdonich and Littlemill, as well as more familiar ones including Glenfarclas, Macallan, Laphroaig, Glenmorangie and Springbank. The newly opened Writing Club at Palais Renaissance on Orchard Road is already a favourite haunt with whisky enthusiasts, what with its warm surroundings and plush leather couches. The rest of the menu should not be ignored either. A look at their selection of exotic gins reveal gems such as the Alkkemist Gin from Spain, the first gin made of samphire and Muscat grape, or the purple butterfly pea-infused Ink Gin from Australia.
