South Asian opulence is tastefully expressed in the decor of this stalwart that, after all these years, continues to impress with its grand modern setting, polished service and exquisite presentation of complex North Indian flavours. The lunch buffet spread indicates the commitment to quality; every dish is à la minute and every few minutes, a staff member from the kitchen will replenish the dishes on the counter. Even the presentation is top-notch. As befitting the Indian culinary culture, the selection of vegetarian dishes is extensive and so enticing that it’s difficult even for seasoned carnivores to ignore. The avocado kebab is a prime example—generous in its creamy texture and rich in flavour, it’s accented by just the right amount of spices and tandoor oven smokiness. Both the murgh tikka masala and the tandoori lamb chops are lip-smacking; their tangy, piquant marinade has been worked through the roasted meat, giving them a silky, flaky texture with each bite. The meats are full of natural flavour yet shy away from gaminess, and the heat from the chilli is just enough to help elevate the aromas of the spice rubs.
• If you don’t have three or four persons to share your meal with, opt for the Tasting Sampler in the Appetiser section of the menu; it represents a fine selection of the restaurant’s best dishes.
• Don’t miss out on the vegetarian dishes. From the tandoor oven varieties to the daals, each one is richly flavoured, light and crisply textured.
