While it’s more popular as a watering hole, those hankering for simple, delicious British grub flock to Oxwell & Co for hearty favourites. Head to the second floor, where the restaurant is located; the elegant space is anchored by an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs in action. Order the cocktails or beers on tap and pair them with addictive bar bites such as salt-and-pepper squid; these calamari rings come with a thick and crunchy coating and are best eaten with a piquant sambal mayo. Have the ubiquitous fish and chips, too, you get two large pieces of fish ensconced in a thin, crisp beer batter that are served with a moreish tartar sauce. Sides are always welcome, especially the unctuous Brussels sprouts, cooked until slightly charred and finished with a sinfully delicious maple butter and savoury chunks of bacon. Lemon posset, a silky dessert of curdled milk with citrus notes, is a good palate cleanser and a nice end to a heavy, filling meal.
