Majestic Bay Seafood Restaurant

Chinese   |   Marina Bay

Aqua-themed décor sets a serene backdrop for Majestic Bay’s signature seafood cuisine

This brightly-lit restaurant is dressed in soothing hues of aqua, pale blue and white.  Clean lines with mirrors reminiscent of bubbles reflect a fresh, simple approach to the interior design. The restaurant is located at the ground floor of the Flower Dome, and, with its full-length glass panels, commands a full view of the Marina Bay Golf Course and Pebble Bay. Tables are set mainly for large groups. Booth seats are located away from the windows and suitable for smaller groups.

Majestic Bay’s signature kopi sauce with live crab does not disappoint. The crabs are flambéd at your table, and accompanied by an aromatic coffee sauce that’s rich and intense in flavour. You will get a choice of snow crab, Sri Lankan crab or Dungeness crab. The seared chilli crabmeat bun is essentially a dim sum dish. Chilli crab is stuffed in mantou-like buns, sprinkled generously with sesame seeds and grilled to perfection. This is a nice twist to a local favourite. The stewed lobster mee sua is not very exciting however. With half a lobster, crunchy leek, diced carrots and capsicum, it is unfortunate that the noodles of this lightly flavoured dish are soggy. Adding a lighthearted dimension to the meal, the steamed yellow duckling bun with Nutella and yam paste is a cute dessert. Shaped in the form of a little yellow duckling, this steamed bun has a delicious yam and hazelnut filling. Order only at the end of the meal, as this is best savoured when hot. Also on the recommended list is the special baked rice with assorted seafood in chef’s recipe sauce, however this ample dish is available only for groups of four to six or seven to 12.

The wine list, which features produce from Australia, Chile and California, is limited. However, there is a good selection of Chinese wine (bai jiu). Corkage is reasonably priced.

The restaurant is full on a Saturday afternoon. Service is basic but pleasant. Perhaps due to the large groups of diners, service needs such as changing of plates and refilling of Chinese tea is slower than usual. A dinner experience here would likely be different in terms of ambience and crowd.

A meal here is about $25 to $50 per person. The crabs and lobster are charged at market price. For the good standard of the dim sum here, it is reasonably priced.
