Creativity is the name of the game at Lewin Terrace. Chef Hiroyuki Shinkai wields magic in his seasonal set menus, such as the eight-course Wakon Yosai Summer menu, where he has put together the perfect harmony of delicate Japanese flavours and rich French cuisine. Like a symphony, the dishes build up to the final two courses. The penultimate of those is the amadai (tilefish), a classic that’s tweaked each season—here, the scales are fried rather than removed, forming a crunchy-crispy texture juxtaposed with the flesh. The final savoury dish features succulent Miyazaki wagyu beef, rich with the aroma of smoked herbs, that’s a hearty finish to the meal.
• While the tables on the veranda are lovely, pick an indoor seat if tête-à-têtes are in order.
• We love the variety of non-alcoholic options; there’s a good selection of sodas, Japanese juices and mocktails available.
