Iggy’s is still one of the best places for modern European cuisine with Asian inflections, paired with one of the most impressive wine lists, particularly if you love something from Burgundy. This time round, the food is noticeably more in line with the Iggy’s we first fell in love with— and we learned it’s because the restaurant has decided to promote its former No. 2, a young chef from Malaysia. The classic capellini with sakura ebi is still one of the best in town, with its beautifully nuanced hits of umami, primarily from the use of shellfish oil and shio kombu that’s fermented to enhance the flavours. Just as impressive is a new dish of slow-cooked beef cheek à la Bourguignon that’s served with a crust of crispy parsley; it’s creative yet familiar, and just the sort of dish you crave if you’re looking to indulge a little over lunch.
