At 60 years old, Gordon Grill is Singapore’s very first European-style grill restaurant, and remains housed within the same 124-year old Victorian-style building. The charming meat trolley service which started in the 1960s continues to this day. Diners can discuss steak marbling, cut and thickness preferences with the knowledgeable server who will then slice a portion from one of six different slabs typically available, before grilling until sharp chargrill marks appear. The menu leans towards traditional continental European with items like pan-fried foie gras and lobster bisque, as well as a few modern ones such as chilled seaweed angel hair with king crab, sakura ebi, caviar and white truffle vinaigrette. Flambéed tableside, the classic crêpe suzette might taste nostalgic but the magic of dessert bursting in flames never gets old. The service here is stellar thanks to staff who know how to deliver good old-fashioned customer service.
