Reinvented Peranakan food grounded in their traditional essence, but elevated with handmade processes and quality produce

Anyone who has kept up with Singapore’s robust dining scene will know of Candlenut. As the first Michelin-starred Peranakan restaurant in the world, Candlenut effortlessly marries tradition and innovation, offering a wonderful array of rich flavours that pay homage to the vibrant heritage of Peranakan culture. Each dish is a masterpiece of intricate spice blends and generations-old family recipes, brilliantly reinvented by chef-owner Malcolm Lee’s innovative touch. Take the hearty Chef’s Mum’s Chicken Curry, for example. Starring fresh local chicken, potatoes and kaffir lime leaf, it’s made according to the chef’s family heirloom recipe. The Westholme Wagyu beef rib rendang is also a crowd pleaser, featuring dry caramelised coconut curry with spices, turmeric leaf and serunding. The beef is extremely tender and goes well with Candlenut’s buah keluak fried rice, which is topped with a Frenz free-range sunny side-up egg.
