The youngest billionaire in Asia is just 25 years old, according to Forbes’ World’s Billionaires List 2022

Forbes’ 2022 list of the World’s Billionaires has just been released. This year, 12 people under the age of 30 have made the list. 

In Asia, 25-year-old Wang Zelong retains his spot from last year as the youngest billionaire across the continent, with an estimated net worth of US$1.5 billion. 

Two female self-made billionaires, Lu Yiwen and Miranda Qu, made the list this year. The former is the youngest female billionaire in Asia and the fourth-youngest female billionaire in the world. The latter is the tenth richest female billionaire in Asia.

The top spot worldwide goes to 19-year-old German heir Kevin David Lehmann, whose net worth is estimated to be US$2.4 billion. He is the only teen on the list.

1. Wang Zelong

For the second year in a row, 25-year-old Wang Zelong, who is based in China, is the youngest billionaire in Asia. This year, he is listed as the fourth-youngest billionaire in the world.

His fortunes are from stakes in Chinese chemical companies CNNC Hua Yuan Titanium Dioxide and Lomon Billions group. His net worth, estimated to be US$1.5 billion, remains the same as last year.

2. Jonathan Kwok

Hong Kong’s Jonathan Kwok is the second-youngest billionaire in Asia, with an estimated net worth of US$2.2 billion.

Kwok is the younger son of late property tycoon Walter Kwok. He and his elder brother Geoffrey Kwok (see below) took over property development firm Empire Group Holdings after the death of their father in 2018.

The brothers also inherited their father’s shares in Sun Hung Kai Properties, the largest property developer in Hong Kong.

3. Hu Kunhui

Hu Kunhui, the chairman of Shenzen YHLO Biotech, has an estimated net worth of US$1.6 billion. The company is a medical equipment supplier based in Shenzen.

4. Wang Han

China-based Wang Han’s estimated net worth had suffered a drop between 2017 and 2021. This year, he has bounced back, with an estimated net worth of US$1.2 billion—up from US$1.1 billion last year.

Much of his wealth comes from his shares in Juneyao Air, a Shanghai-based flight carrier he inherited from his father Wang Junyao, who had founded the company.

5. Lu Yiwen

Self-made billionaire Lu Yiwen, who co-founded jewellery company DR Corp, makes her debut on the list this year with an estimated net worth of US$4.1 billion. The company went public on the Shenzen Stock Exchange in 2021. She’s currently the fourth-youngest female billionaire in the world.

6. Wang Ning

Wang Ning is the founder and CEO of toy company Pop Mart International Group, of which he owns around 46 per cent of shares. It listed its shares in Hong Kong in December 2020. It is best-known for the Dimoo series of toys, featuring alien figurines with puff-shaped hair.

7. Dmitri Bukhman

Dmitri Bukhman is the co-founder of online gaming startup Playrix, alongside his brother Igor. The company is the developer of popular mobile games like Homescapes and Fishdom.

In 2018, the brothers also acquired a stake in Nexters Global, a video and social network games developer.

8. Geoffrey Kwok

The elder son of Walter Kwok, Geoffrey Kwok took over property development company Empire Group Holdings along with his brother Jonathan after the death of their father in 2018.

Like his younger brother, Kwok also inherited Walter Kwok’s shares in Sun Hung Kai Properties.

9. Christopher Kwok

Christopher Kwok is the younger son of real estate tycoon Raymond Kwok, who is the chairman of Sun Hung Kai Properties. His uncle is the late Walter Kwok.

He has been Sun Hung Kai Properties’s executive director since 2016.

10. Miranda Qu

Self-made billionaire Miranda Qu, president and co-founder of Shanghai-headquartered social and e-commerce platform Xiaohongshu, makes her debut on the Forbes Billionaires List this year with an estimated net worth of US$1.8 billion.

Xiaohongshu, which means “Little Red Book” in Chinese, has been described as “China’s answer to Instagram”. Qu co-founded the company in 2013.
