Among those who continue to use their influence to better the education system in Singapore, we highlight three women who have dedicated their lives to improving our young minds
There is no doubt that Singapore's education system is one of the best in the world and that it produces some of the smartest and most savvy students, year after year.
However, it didn't just get this good on its own. Rather, it was the work of many educators, policy leaders and donors that have, over the years, shaped our education system and ensured that everyone is given a chance to succeed.
While the local education scene is made up of many notable people, we highlight some of the incredible women who are making waves in the industry and who are featured on Tatler’s 2021 Asia’s Most Influential list.

1. Tan Kheng Lian
Dr Tan Kheng Lian, who is the daughter of the late banker and philanthropist Tan Sri (Dr) Tan Chin Tuan, the man behind one of Singapore’s largest banks, OCBC, is a force to behold.
As chairman of her family’s Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, Dr Tan oversees the non-profit organisation’s efforts in providing assistance to the less fortunate and channelling funds for the good of society.
Under her watch, The Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, which she oversees, has donated tens of millions of dollars to education, the arts and community programmes since its inception in 1976.
Dr Tan is also a private practice eye surgeon who completed her medical studies at the Royal College of Physicians in London, the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
