Teo Tong Lim is the group managing director of his family’s property development and investment firm, Tong Eng Group. The company is engaged in various residential and commercial projects in Singapore and Australia, including View at Kismis, Three Balmoral and 138 Sixth Avenue in Singapore as well as office buildings 312 St Kilda Road and 5 Queens Road in Melbourne. Teo has been with the business for over 45 years.

The company was started by Fujian natives Teo Thye Hong and his brother, Thye Chor, who came to Singapore after World War II. From trading electrolytic tinplates, the brothers shifted to property development in the 1950s, building the first industrial estate in Paya Lebar and also working on residential projects in Pasir Panjang, Changi, Upper Serangoon Road and Yio Chu Kang. The group entered the Australian market in 2015 with the acquisition of the former Harley-Davidson building at 111-125 A’Beckett Street in Melbourne.

Tong Eng Group is also active in various philanthropic initiatives. It made a SG$50,000 donation to Project Belanja in 2020 for the purpose of catering meals for migrant workers supported by ItsRainingRaincoats, an initiative that aims to improve the lives of such workers in Singapore. The firm also donated AU$200,000 to Victoria’s Country Fire Authority and the New South Wales Rural Fire Service in 2020 to help fight the Australian bushfires.
