Tang Wee Kit is at the helm of homegrown retail icon Tangs and its related companies

Tang Wee Kit is the executive chairman of Tang Holdings and chairman of the executive committee of its subsidiary C K Tang, both of which were founded by his late father Tang Choon Keng.

C K Tang is famous for its iconic Orchard Road department store, Tangs, which has become a veritable Singaporean institution. Tangs was also notable for being the only major shopping centre in Singapore not to open on Sundays, so Tang’s family and his Christian staff could attend church. This practice endured from the store’s opening in 1958 up to 1996, when the decision was made to open the store on Sundays. The company also operates a Tangs department store in VivoCity, which opened in 2006.

The family-owned property and investment holding firm owns Tang Plaza (which houses the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel and Tangs department store) as well as Gianurn Building on River Valley Road, among other commercial and residential properties.
