Shaw Vee Meng

Chairman, Shaw Organisation

Son of the movie tycoon, real estate mogul and philanthropist Run Run Shaw, Shaw Vee Meng continues to oversee his father’s diversifying entertainment empire, as well as its long-running charity arm

Shaw Vee Meng is the chairman of Shaw Organisation and the eldest son of late movie tycoon Sir Run Run Shaw, whose film-distribution business became a major player in Asia after its inception in 1925 under the moniker Tianyi Film Company. These days, Shaw Organisation is also involved in other areas of business such as cinemas, property and investment.

The younger Shaw is also chairman of the Shaw Foundation, a philanthropic arm established in 1957 with the view that “wealth contributed by society should be returned, and in generous measures”. The Foundation, which is one of the largest philanthropic organisations in the world, has donated in excess of US$150 million to causes encompassing education, welfare, medicine, the arts and heritage preservation. Beneficiaries include organisations such as the Singapore Repertory Theatre, the National University of Singapore and the National Kidney Foundation.

An honorary life member of YMCA Singapore, Shaw is also a patron of the National Crime Prevention Council and serves as president emeritus of the Alliance Française de Singapour.
