Ng Joo Hee is a former police chief who became custodian of the ever-evolving agency that oversees Singapore’s water supply

Chief executive of PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, Ng Joo Hee has led the government agency since 2015. The 33-year public-service veteran is tasked with overseeing the crucial role of safeguarding the country’s most precious resource, with PUB being responsible for reclaiming and treating used water, supplying drinkable water, and managing storm water in the country.

Under his watch, PUB opened Singapore’s fifth NEWater plant in Changi in 2017, and the country’s third desalination plant at Tuas the following year. The Changi facility processes 50 million gallons of water a day, while the Tuas plant produces up to 30 million gallons of drinking water a day.

Before his appointment at PUB, Ng was the country’s Commissioner of Police. He was named to the role in February 2010, having spent over two decades with the police force and holding a range of key appointments such as director of the Police Intelligence Department and deputy director of the Criminal Investigation Department.

Ng graduated from the UK’s Oxford University, with an engineering science and economics degree, and has a Master’s in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
