Mok Wei Wei

Managing director, W Architects

W Architects’ managing director is an exponent of modernism rooted in heritage

Take a trip around Singapore, and chances are you’ll spot one of award-winning architect Mok Wei Wei’s innovative structures. Be it People’s Park Complex, the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, The Loft condominium at Nassim Hill or the 33 Robin condo, Mok has made a mark on the landscape with his multi-faceted, iconic buildings. The managing director of W Architects was also the creative force behind the refurbishment of some of Singapore’s most recognisable landmarks, including the National Museum of Singapore, and Victoria Theatre & Concert Hall.

Hailing from a traditional Chinese family, Mok was schooled in architecture at the height of the post-modernist movement. He was mentored by pioneering Singaporean architect William Lim, and influenced by the works of Pritzker Prize-winning master builder Frank Gehry, whom he met on a trip with Lim to the US and Japan in 1983. Mok merges his Chinese roots and influences with present-day urban sensibilities; his creations showcase a subtle play on the traditional and the new, and have received critical acclaim both locally and internationally.

W Architects helped in the sustainable restoration of the St James Power Station, a historical landmark in Singapore which is now home to the new global headquarters of technology company Dyson, opened in March 2022.

In recognition of his contributions to public service, Mok was conferred the Public Service Medal (PBM) in 2014. W Architects also published its first monograph, detailing 35 years of architectural design, in October 2020.
