CEO, Sport Singapore
Even though the pandemic has changed the way Singaporeans enjoy sport, thanks to its repeated rounds of tightening and easing of safe management measures, “We can do something about this, we can have fun,” Lim Teck Yin, the CEO of Sport Singapore (SportSG), told Channel News Asia in an interview in January 2021. ”We've got to think about how we innovate... human beings are born to be inventive and we should just, rather than lie down and play dead, get out there and change the game,” he added.
And that’s what SportSG is about: “Empowering people to live better through sport and helping to bring sport into the lives of all Singaporeans.” Lim, who joined SportSG in 2011 after three decades in the Singapore Armed Forces, is the impetus behind Vision 2030, Singapore’s sports master plan. Since his appointment 10 years ago, he has seen a number of Singaporeans compete in the big leagues at international sports competitions.
A serviceman for 30 years and a former brigadier-general, Lim was a national water polo player, with six Southeast Games gold medals to his name. He has also received several Singapore National Olympic Council Team of the Year Awards and two Public Administration Medals.
