Elizabeth Khoo is managing director of York Hotel Singapore and a trustee of the estate of her late father, prominent businessman and investor Khoo Teck Puat. The senior Khoo made his fortune by pursuing interests in banking, hotels and property development, among others. He was the owner of the Goodwood group of hotels and also holds a majority stake in Standard Chartered Bank.

The elder Khoo was also a philanthropist and established the Khoo Teck Puat Foundation charity fund in 1981. Since his death in 2004, the body has disbursed more than SG$345 million towards causes such as medical research, healthcare and education. About SG$125 million also went to the building and operation of the eponymous Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, a 795-bed general and acute-care medical facility located in Yishun.

The estate of Khoo Teck Puat also made a donation of SG$10 million for Project MigrantWell. Besides setting up a medical centre at Penjuru Recreational Centre to deliver primary care for migrant workers, it established the MigrantWell Welfare Fund to further strengthen healthcare support for them.

Elizabeth Khoo is the executor of the foundation’s operations in Singapore as well as in the UK. She is also a board member of the Alexandra Health Fund, a registered charity.
