Banking star Edmund Koh is a devoted friend of the arts

Edmund Koh was appointed president of UBS Asia Pacific at UBS Group AG and UBS AG in January 2019, promoted from his previous position as head of wealth management for Asia Pacific and country head Singapore. He joined UBS in 2012 from Taiwan-based Ta Chong Bank, where he served as President and Director. Before working for DBS Bank in Singapore, Koh was CEO of Prudential Assurance and Alverdine Pte Ltd, both companies based in Singapore.

The financial sector veteran has over three decades of experience in the financial services sector. Koh currently oversees the Swiss multinational investment bank and financial services firm’s businesses across 13 locations in Asia Pacific. which contributes about 37 per cent of the organisation’s profit before tax. He is responsible for UBS’ global wealth management, investment bank, and asset management divisions and meets with key regulators and government officials regularly to exchange views on market and geopolitical development, and financial markets opening and policies.

Under his stewardship, UBS Wealth Management Asia Pacific posted a record-breaking year of growth in assets for 2017: invested assets grew 28 per cent to 373 billion Swiss francs (S$522 billion) for full-year 2017, compared to 292 billion Swiss francs in 2016, marking the bank’s strongest year since 2010. UBS currently manages more than $600 billion of assets in Asia Pacific.

Koh is a strong advocate of talent management and community involvement. He launched the UBS Youth Finance Academy in 2014 to build the talent pipeline for Singapore’s financial industry.

He is also a board/council member of various committees and is a Member of the sub-committee of the Singapore Ministry of Finance’s Committee on the Future Economy.

UBS and the Community Foundation of Singapore organised Diversity in Abilities, a stage production and art exhibition involving children from special-education schools in Singapore in 2016. The youngsters had undergone a 16-week course in film, music, dance, drama and the visual arts prior to the event.

Koh holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Toronto, Canada.

UBS is also the founding and lead partner of ART SG. During the inaugural 2023 launch, ART SG attracted over 43,000 art lovers, with more than 164 galleries from 35 markets, making it the largest art event in Southeast Asia in a decade. This collaboration aligns with UBS’s support of cultural endeavours and sponsorships of art fairs globally.
