Edmund Cheng leads one of Asia’s property investment and hospitality behemoths

Hong Kong-born Edmund Cheng is deputy chairman and deputy managing director of property and lifestyle company Wing Tai Holdings, and concurrently the chairman of Mapletree Investments, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and the Singapore Art Museum.

Wing Tai was founded in Hong Kong in 1955, and made its way to Singapore in August 1963. The firm was listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange in 1989, and today operates a network of companies in the fields of property investment and development, lifestyle retail and hospitality management across Asia. Wing Tai recently reported a net profit of S$43.6 million for the year ended 30 June 2021, marking a 173 per cent jump compared with the previous year on the back of increased revenue from development properties.

Cheng, an art and design enthusiast, was also formerly chairman of the National Arts Council, as well as chairman of The Esplanade Co, The Old Parliament House, and Sculpture Square. He was also a director of Singapore Airlines and the Urban Redevelopment Authority, and a past president of the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Singapore.

Cheng attends art shows regularly and purchases numerous works from local and regional artists, placing many of them in his Wing Tai properties.
