Dick Lee

Composer, Fried Rice Paradise Entertainment

Singer, songwriter, playwright, director—Dick Lee wears many hats, and uses them all to champion Asian culture in pop music

A veteran entertainer and one of Singapore’s most prominent musicians, Dick Lee has spent his entire career shaping Asian pop music and championing it across the world. Though he began as a recording artist, Lee has also directed musicals, concerts, a film, and several Singapore National Day Parades.

In 1989, Lee released one of the defining works of his career: the seminal album The Mad Chinaman, which achieved platinum status and contributed to the canon of Asian pop and Cantopop music. By 1990 Lee moved to Japan where he continued to shape Asian music, collaborating with top artists including Sandy Lam, Jacky Cheung, and Stephanie Sun.

In 1997 Lee composed “Home”, one of Singapore’s most popular, most beloved national songs. (In 2020, he led Singapore residents in an online singalong of “Home”.) He also composed “We Will Get There”, the anthem of Singapore’s 2002 National Day, and “Our Singapore”, the signature song for Singapore’s 50th anniversary celebration. In 2021, Lee returned to the stage for The More Further Adventures of Dick Lee, a sequel to his earlier show, The Adventures of the Mad Chinaman, which was based on his 1989 album.

In 2023, he directed the immersive dinner theatre Por Por's Big Fat Surprise Wedding for the Singapore Repertory Theatre. Lee will be releasing a few singles leading up to his 50th Anniversary Concert in August 2024 and is currently working on a couple of exciting projects for 2025.
