The helmsman and navigator of a seafood institution, Ang Kiam Meng’s Jumbo restaurant chain has greatly expanded since the turn of the millennium

Under the stewardship of group CEO and executive director Ang Kiam Meng, food and beverage company Jumbo Group has built upon its reputation as one of Singapore’s leading multi-dining concept F&B establishments. The restaurant chain, which is especially famous for its chilli crab dish, today counts seven brands among its portfolio and operates 35 outlets across 12 cities in Asia.

Jumbo was started in the 1980s by a group of friends who were seafood enthusiasts. Ang, who is an engineer by training, took over the business in 1993. The brand grew rapidly in the 2000s, opening several Singaporean outlets in quick succession in locations such as Riverside Point, Dempsey Hill, The Riverwalk and VivoCity. It made its first foray into China, in Shanghai, in 2013, and opened its second Jumbo Seafood outlet in the capital, Beijing, at the Universal Studios theme park in September 2021. This outpost is the eighth Jumbo Seafood restaurant in China and its 17th in Asia.

Ang also serves as chairman of the Commerce & Industry Committee, and is a council member of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Additionally he sits on the board of governors at Hwa Chong Institution, and is vice-president of the management committee of the Teochew Poit Ip Huay Kuan federation.
