Change is coming

There’s something deeply fulfilling about witnessing progress and social change. After years of struggle and stagnation, being finally able to relax, take a deep breath and enjoy the fruits of one’s labour have a bit of magic to it. We’re seeing it in the Hong Kong music industry, which in recent years has become a safer and more inclusive space for its LGBTQ+ members. Things have changed drastically since local legend Leslie Cheung came out 20 years ago, and as singers Joya, Silvy Pavida and Jason Dhakal explain to Tatler, things can only get better.

Whether in music, fashion or cuisine, diversity makes everything richer. And by highlighting stories of success in this arena at Tatler, we’re hoping to contribute to the movement. As Victoria Wisniewski Otero, founder of diversity-focused non-profit Resolve, says: “To change mindsets to be more tolerant and inclusive, you need visibility of people from those minority groups who can be ambassadors.”
