How do you measure success?

Measuring success is as complex as it is subjective. In most workplaces, achieving success can depend on many factors—work ethic, integrity, performance ... just to name a few. However, no matter how much someone excels at any or all of these factors, should they come from a background with abundant economical, social and cultural capital, they success is sometimes underplayed or even put under the microscope. Divia Harilela, editor and founder of The D’Vine fashion and lifestyle consultancy, and Angelina Kwan, CEO of Stratford Finance, share their thoughts on whether nepo babies—children of the rich and famous, who have succeeded in careers similar to those of their parents—are unfairly scrutinised.

Now, let’s look at other ways different people might measure success—from being able to speak confidently in front of an audience to igniting a passion, or even prioritising your well-being. In this week’s newsletter, Treena Nairne from TEDxTinHauWomen tell us how she became a confident public speaker; K-pop idol Taeyang stresses that behind any victory is a lot of self-care; and then there is Thai British Formula One driver Alex Albon, who is proof that passion projects—even if they’re outside your core passion—are worth pursuing and putting hard work into. But, of course, a bit of luck from the stars is always welcome to facilitate the process.

Dear Tatler readers, this weekend, celebrate your successes. The positive impact you have on the world—whether that’s in your professional or private lives—is never too small and deserves to be honoured. Until next time, have a great Friday!
