Warm welcome

Chuan Spa has an interior design that incorporates the five elements of TCM: wood in its furnishings, fire in the warm lighting, earth in decorative stones, metal in the brass handles and water in the calming waterfall that greets you as you enter.

Upon arrival, I was introduced to the spa’s new treatments, including the Therapeutic Bust Care Massage, which came about in response to the growing desire for chest treatments as women grew more aware of the complex nature of breasts in relation to menstrual cycles, fertility, postnatal care and menopause. Afterwards, I was shown to a private room for a media trial session of the breast care massage, which was trimmed to 30 minutes.

Why it’s important

While the current beauty market is heavily saturated with facials and massages, bust care is often overlooked. However, this part of the anatomy holds a complex system of tissues, glands and lymph nodes that also deserve pampering. Massaging the area with comfortable pressure and upward strokes can encourage blood circulation, reduce swelling and ease tenderness, and even make breasts appear firmer and lifted.

On to the treatment

My massage therapist Chermar began by making sure I was comfortable with the treatment, and explained that the massage will also include the chest and armpit areas. She then covered my eyes and began with exfoliating using a mixture that contains tomato and watercress extract, prized for their antioxidant and regenerative properties, respectively. These ingredients also has enzymes that help cleanse the skin thoroughly.

She then applied the Vagheggi Breast Concentrate, which contains dictyopteris algae and dill extract for firmer skin and bergamot for its antioxidants. The blend’s refreshing scent definitely helped me feel calm and at ease.

Next, she moved on to the lifting massage using the Sikelia Breast Concentrate and Toning serum. The firm pressure she applied throughout felt relaxing, especially around the armpits, which was surprising given the sensitive nature of the area. The massage used rapid upward strokes around the perimeter of my breasts, and after the treatment I did think they appeared visibly lifted and fuller.

Final thoughts

As the treatment wrapped up, Chermar wiped my chest clean with a warm washcloth and then left me to get dressed. When I exited the treatment room, she was there to guide me to the lounge where I enjoyed a cup of herbal tea and cubes of goji berry jelly and fresh watermelon. As I settled into the chair to take in the gorgeous view of Kowloon, I felt a wave of pure bliss wash over me—who knew a breast massage could be so relaxing?
