While the 12 Animal Signs and the five elements are often visualised as literal elemental animals, it’s not at all like that in Chinese Metaphysics. The “Wood” in the “Wood Dragon” is represented by a tall and majestic tree, while the dragon itself is a mountain. In other words, this year is like that of a tree that has rooted itself on top of a green hillside.
So, what does this mean? A tree is a living thing and so they keep growing. Part of that growth means to shed their bark as new ones are forming internally. As this is the first year of Period 9, it makes sense that the world as a whole is letting go of new practices.
