Space Entertainment Enterprise (SEE), the company co-producing Tom Cruise’s upcoming space movie, has announced plans to build a production studio in outer space by 2024
The film industry is reaching new heights, quite literally, as Space Entertainment Enterprise (SEE)—the company co-producing Tom Cruise's upcoming space movie—has unveiled revolutionary plans to launch a film studio in outer space by December 2024. A sports and entertainment arena will also be built alongside the studio, all in zero gravity.
Named SEE-1, the module is designed to support film production, broadcast and live-streaming for television, music and sports projects in low-orbit, micro-gravity environments. The company intends to produce its own content and events within the module, while making the site available to third parties for creative purposes.
According to reports, SEE-1 will be developed in collaboration with Axiom Space, the company which won NASA’ approval to build the first commercial section of the International Space Station (ISS), Axiom Station in 2020. Once it’s ready for launch, the studio will dock on Axiom Station.

“SEE-1 is an incredible opportunity for humanity to move into a different realm and start an exciting new chapter in space,” said SEE co-founders Dmitry and Elena Lesnevsky in a statement. “It will provide a unique and accessible home for boundless entertainment possibilities in a venue packed with innovative infrastructure, which will unleash a new world of creativity."
“With worldwide leader Axiom Space building this cutting-edge, revolutionary facility, SEE-1 will provide not only the first, but also the supreme quality space structure enabling the expansion of the two trillion-dollar global entertainment industry into low-Earth orbit," they continued.
Tom Cruise, who is well-known for his death-defying stunts, was originally expected to jet off to space with director Dough Liman in October 2021 to shoot a movie in orbit, with NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX reportedly involved in the production. While no updates have been provided on the development of this ambitious project yet, it’s entirely possible that the actor will once again push the limits of action filmmaking and create content onboard SEE-1.
Meanwhile, a Russian film crew successfully flew to the ISS in October last year and completed a 12-day shoot for the world’s first feature movie shot in space, The Challenge, which is scheduled for release later this year.
