“Giambattista Valli Designed My Wedding Dress”
Feiping Chang shares what it's really like to get Giambattista Valli to custom-make a wedding gown for you.
Most girls have an idea of what they want their wedding dress to look like. For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted Giamba to make my dress. He makes very dreamlike creations that are just above and beyond.

It was a long process. I went to Paris four times for the fittings and each time I saw a very different stage of the creation. As a bride, you’re very anxious to see the final result, but I had complete faith in him and his vision, and the final dress exceeded my wildest expectations.
One of the seamstresses told me this is the biggest dress they’ve ever made, but surprisingly I didn’t find it overwhelming. I think it’s very dreamy and actually quite comfortable.
For the dress that I wore to the dinner reception, we decided to go for a different vibe. It was made of silk and much lighter.
Giamba included silk rose petals in different shades of pink throughout the bodice of the gown so it matched the floral elements of the reception. Every petal was placed on the dress while I was wearing it to see how it would flow with the dress.
At the final fitting for the wedding gown, I was sitting there waiting and saw that five girls had to carry the dress in. It looked amazing.
When I first saw it, it looked like a cloud. I didn’t have that TV moment where I burst into tears; I just spent time admiring the craftsmanship that went into it, especially because the people I talked to most were the team from the atelier who did all the hard work.
They had to hand-pleat and iron every layer of tulle. It was just incredible. The attention to detail on how the dress relates to the person wearing it is what makes it such a special creation.
