Given its intensity and complex techniques, martial arts may seem daunting for beginners. But Evolve MMA has levelled the playing field with its new classes. For the time being, the Singapore-based martial arts academy has taken to Zoom to host a slew of interactive sessions, ranging from muay thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, to wrestling, suitable for participants of any background. “Our goal is to empower individuals through authentic martial arts taught by world‑champion instructors, who can provide real-time feedback to students,” says Evolve MMA vice president Wesley De Souza. Furthermore, all proceeds from the Evolve Live Zoom classes will be donated to Boys’ Town, a local charity that helps children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds.

2. Ride Zero by Ground Zero

Rhythmic cycling first took Singapore by storm in the early 2010s and it has remained popular among fitness enthusiasts till today. Ground Zero, a fitness studio in the Telok Ayer area, is now offering its 45-minute spin classes for participants at home to work up a sweat through its latest concept, Ride Zero. Rent a bike on its dedicated website and have a virtual class with your favourite instructor, combining high-intensity cardio training with the resistance experienced on the bike to build muscular endurance. Members can also enjoy working out to curated playlists by the instructors, so no two classes are the same. “A large part of the Ground Zero experience is the physical atmosphere of being in a dark room with club-like lights and music roaring through the sound system,” shares co-founder Jeong Fok. “But when we strip it down to Ride Zero, you will see how our instructors are instrumental to the entire experience and carry that energy through your screens.”
