The Great Gatsby-inspired wedding banquet of Gloria Goh and Edward Cheong transported guests almost a century back into the gilded Jazz Age.

The Couple

A director of Dreams Establishment, Gloria Goh met Edward Cheong in 2010 but they lost touch after he moved to Sydney. A reunion two years later led to a long-distance relationship for the pair. Fast-forward to 2014. On a visit to Hunter Valley in November, Edward took the youngest daughter of noted businessman Tommie Goh, chairman of 2G Capital, to a stunning vantage point in a vineyard where he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife.

Put A Ring On It

Edward proposed with this exquisite emerald-cut diamond engagement ring. Needless to say, he got an instant yes.

 Navy & Gold

For their wedding banquet at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore in November 2016, the couple went for a Great Gatsby theme. To evoke the splendour of the 1920s, a navy and gold colour palette was used in the ballroom decor and was seen in everything from the stage backdrop to the table runners.

 Light As A Feather

To bring out the decadence of The Great Gatsby, large feather sprays were used in the table centrepieces, at bar counters and in stage decorations.

 Art Deco Touches

The wedding cake was a five-tiered confection by Little House of Dreams, one of the business arms of Dreams Establishment. It bore the colour contrasts and geometric and angular shapes unique to 1920s art deco designs. Draped with strings of lustrous “gold pearls” for that much more extravagance, it was crowned with a monogram of the couple’s name.

 The New Guest Book

They don’t call it the Jazz Age for nothing. Fittingly, guests penned their well wishes for the newlyweds on treasured old records.

 Harmonious Strings

As they sipped on cocktails and nibbled canapes during the pre-dinner reception, guests were entertained by a string trio, put together by the newlyweds’ friend.

That’s The Spirit!

Just as American author F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel would be incomplete without liquor-fuelled backdrops, this grand party indulged guests in a bespoke cocktail bar on top of red and white wines and champagne. “We worked on the bespoke cocktail bar together with a vendor, Elite Bar Solutions, to design the lighted bar counter, taste and select our drink options, and even came up with names for the personalised bar menu,” shares Gloria.

High Notes

Edward surprised the bride and guests with songs in English and Mandarin. “It was touching, memorable, surprising and heart-warming all at once,” says Gloria.
