Edit Lifestyle Pinoy Edition Vol.1

What Edit Lifestyle brings to us a truly Filipino experience while celebrating the Philippines' heritage craft. Featuring 32 artists, artisans and popular local fashion labels such as Zacarias 1925—known for its stylish handwoven bags—and luxe jewellery brand Bea Valdes, learn about the country's culture through their artistic works. Other finds include contemporary fashion brands like PioPio, which fuses tradition with modernity, and exquisite jewellery from acclaimed designers Natalya Lagdemeo and Pepito Albert, Philippines' fashion pioneer.

Re|Collecting Asia and Ryder Ripps’ Diventare Schiavo

When October 6 to November 19

What In celebration of Gillman Barracks’ 5th anniversary, The Ryan Foundation launched two new exhibitions concurrently on 20 September. Re|Collecting Asia is the first collectors’ show to be held in Gillman Barracks, exhibiting rare and eclectic art pieces from Southeast Asia owned by private collectors, and Ryder Ripps’ Diventare Schiavo—which translates to Become A Slave—immerses the audience into ‘art’ itself through the use of virtual reality (VR). Gallery-goers can expect to be amazed by the never-before-seen art pieces displayed at the collectors’ show and the fascinating experience of producing VR headsets in a factory through VR itself.

Once Upon A Time: The Wild Rice Ball

When October 6

What Wild Rice holds its 16th annual charity gala at the Island Ballroom of Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore this Friday night, celebrating progression in the local theatrical landscape while raising funds to sustain this success. Known for its out-of-the-world fundraising events, guests are guaranteed a night of mystical wonders with a line-up of entertainment directed by—and starring—Ivan Heng (founding artistic director) and  Glen Goei  (associate artistic director), as well as an exquisite culinary experience conjured by Pepe Moncayo, celebrity chef of Spanish and Japanese fusion restaurant, Bam! All funds raised from the gala will go into supporting Wild Rice’s artistic and educational programmes.

Ion Art: Celebration of Photography

When October 7 to 15

What In collaboration with Leica Galerie Singapore and in conjunction with Ion Orchard’s 8th anniversary, the fourth edition of the annual Ion Art Photography Series presents a visual feast ranging from portraits and documentaries to lifestyle and street photography. Featuring works from eight local photographers—KC Eng, Laxmi Kaul, Andrew Lum, Francisco Marin, Justin Ong, Eric Sawitoski, Marc Tan and Yuey Tan & Claire Jedrek—the exhibition promises a moment of introspection as you see the world through their lenses, quite literally. Aspiring photographers can head down for the complimentary talks led by six of the above-mentioned photographers on Saturdays. The exhibition will run from 10am to 10pm daily.

Painting with Light: International Festival of Films on Art

When October 7 to 29

What Dedicated to uncovering the transformative power of art and the passion of those who work around it, Painting with Light explores an array of subjects—from the most visionary art manifestos to classical art forms, avant-garde art to the effects of censorship. Featuring over 30 films this year with most of them premiering in Singapore for the first time, the festival is categorised into four main themes—institutions of art and their communities; artists and their interventions in society; commissioned works by master filmmakers; and the art and culture of Southeast Asia. Come and immerse yourself in this controversially creative space this Saturday.
