Forbidden City: Portrait of an Empress

What  Perhaps the most successful original musical to be produced locally, Forbidden City: Portrait of an Empress is back for its fourth run. The story follows the life of notorious Empress Dowager Cixi from her youth as an imperial concubine, and her trials and tribulations in the Forbidden City. Boasting three sell-out shows since its debut in 2002, original cast Kit Chan and Sheila Francisco will be reprising their iconic roles as the Empress Dowager in different stages of her life. The cast will also include Earl Carpenter (Les Misérables), Steffanie Leigh (Mary Poppins) and local actor Sebastian Tan (Broadway Beng).

A Celebration of Dreams: John Williams • The Music Makers

What  The Orchestra of the Music Makers is joined by Fiona Campbell, the Taipei Philharmonic Chorus and International Festival Chorus and Friends in this symphonic concert that pays tribute to Edward Elgar’s The Music Makers, as well as the music of John Williams, who has written numerous scores for iconic films. Familiar themes that will be performed include scores from the Star Wars franchise, Hook and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The orchestra also celebrates the anniversary of Singapore’s first ever Olympic Gold Medal with Call of the Champions, originally written for the 2002 Winter Olympics.

JetSurf SEA Launch Party

When  August 11 to 13

What  Surfing enthusiasts, take heed. In partnership with JetSurf SEA, Ola Beach Club will be launching JetSurf, a new watersport using motorised surfboards that are perfect for any water condition—even the calm seas of Singapore. The launch party will be held on August 12, headlined by popular acts like DJ Showtek, Otto Knows, and DJ Ivy. On August 13, catch the finals of the Singapore Exhibition Race, which is part of the MotoSurf WorldCup Championship. The event will feature international JetSurf athletes from around the world.
