TATLER FOCUS Land Rover continues an emphatic rise to acclaim with its latest and most appealing offering to date, the Range Rover Velar.

Without a doubt, we’re living in fast-changing times, with traditions of yore constantly evolving to keep up with progress. The same can be said for the automotive world, where Land Rover has again rewritten boundaries and standards.

Range Rover, the premium segment of Land Rover, was first introduced in 1969 to pair Land Rover’s unparalleled off-road performance with powerful settings. These prototypes preceding the launch of the first Range Rover in 1970 were, interestingly, badged as Velar.

With a name that means “to conceal” in Latin, the new Range Rover Velar that recently launched this year in Singapore epitomises this definition in the form of a car that slots in between the marque’s Range Rover Sport and its more compact Range Rover Evoque. Designed to rough it out where the road ends while not compromising on creature comforts in the wilderness, the New Range Rover Velar does so with glamour, elegance and modernity.

Pleasing to the eye

With a meticulous attention to detail, the New Range Rover Velar presents a pure, uninterrupted silhouette that is beautifully minimalist. Its sloping roofline, flushed deployable door handles, pinched rear end and enchanting LED headlights will have onlookers swooning over its understated beauty.

Inside, the New Range Rover Velar is plush with subtle details consistent with car’s sleek exterior. You’ll find yourself relaxing on soft leather seats and be thoroughly entertained by either the passing scenery within a silent cabin or the music that is piping through the Meridian surround sound system.

The new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system is another interior highlight of the car. It comprises two 10-inch high definition touchscreens seamlessly integrated into the centre console, with an intuitive interface so adjustments to certain elements such as climate control and audio settings can be done without interrupting the ongoing navigation to your next destination.

Exciting on the fly

The new Range Rover Velar may look more at home in the city than in the wild, but it isn’t one to cringe when nature beckons.

Fashioned out of aluminium for lightweight rigidity and equipped with an adaptive suspension for stability, the Velar does not just give off a commanding view of the road but moves on it at pace. Whether you are driving in the 2.0L or  3.0L variant, which offers 250PS and 380PS respectively, the car drives with the dignity, precision and purpose that Land Rovers are known for.

A raft of intelligent features has made the new Range Rover Velar a capable trooper off the beaten track, too. Thanks to various off-road modes accessible via buttons, the same adaptive suspension system* that keeps the car firmly on the road can do the opposite when faced with the prospect of uneven ground and water ponding. Behind the scenes, the car’s Intelligent Driveline Dynamics work to effectively distribute power from the engine to the wheels for greater traction.

With its balance of form and function, and handsome appearance, the only question surrounding a case for adding a new Range Rover Velar to your existing fleet of cars would be, why not?

*Only for the 3.0L variant
