The lines between art and design are increasingly being blurred as designers take more creative liberties and push the boundaries of the definition of “design”. This is the topic explored at the Southeast Asia Forum of this year’s edition of Art Stage Singapore, which is helmed by The Artling Collectible Design Showcase. The inaugural design showcase at Southeast Asia’s flagship art fair looks at the cross-disciplinary practices in art and design, presenting a curated selection of functional design items including furniture, lighting, textiles and design products by some of the region’s most exciting and up-and-coming designers. See how these designers respond to the rapid socio-economic growth in Southeast Asia, and how they blur the lines between art and design with cutting-edge technology. Old production methods are given new life, while new production methods are being tested and pushed to the boundaries to re-define “design”. All items at The Artling Collectible Design Showcase are available for purchase at the fair, until January 28, at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, and on theartling.com.
