How To Start (And End) Every Honeymoon

With all the privacy, comfort and thoughtful luxury to pamper and indulge, the refreshed Emirates' Boeing 777 fleet makes it too easy for newlyweds to leave behind their cares and slip straight into honeymoon mode

Just days ago, your world was a frenzy with ceremonies and vow exchanges, elaborate banquets, endless toasts and photo-taking, all-night dancing, speeches and entertaining guests from near and far. Here you are now at the airport, arm-in-arm with your new spouse, ready to take off for your first journey as Mr & Mrs yet you can’t quite free your mind of thoughts about post-wedding to-dos and tying up loose ends at work before your three-week honeymoon.

Experts in the art of spoiling customers (and shouldn’t you be spoiled rotten on your honeymoon?), Emirates puts its dollars behind delivering the best in-flight experience, continually unveiling new products that raise the bar in luxury travel, like the cavernous double-decker A380 with an onboard lounge inspired by luxury yachts.

More recently, it unveiled refreshed interiors for its Boeing 777 fleet, which now features modern, airy cabins as well as new fully-enclosed First Class private suites with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that take privacy to greater heights (even with the bed made, you can change in them).

We counts the ways flying premium with Emirates to your honeymoon destination makes a blissful beginning to your journey of a lifetime.

1/7 A warm welcome

No celebration is complete without bubbles. The moment you settle into your seat, you’ll be served flutes of Laurent-Perrier champagne (or a drink of your choice) so you can toast to a successful wedding and to the start of your happy-ever-after.

2/7 Cocooned in comfort

Whether you’re flying to Colombo or Geneva, you want to get there in comfort so you won’t feel like you need to spend half a day recuperating at your destination before exploring the place. Drawing inspiration from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Business Class seats in the refreshed Boeing 777 fleet are fully clad in soft leather with a diamond stitch pattern, promising a relaxing flight.

They have a roomy 72-inch pitch, 20.5-inch width, and when you want to catch some shut-eye, hit the wireless control panel and it’ll recline 78 inches into a fully-flat bed which will be overlaid with a mattress for plush comfort. The ergonomically designed headrest, and a sleek overall look will lull you into dream mode before you know it!

If you’re flying First Class, the electronically-operated leg rest, backrest, headrest, armrest, seat frame, leg rest extension and seat pan can be placed in a zero gravity mode inspired by Nasa technology, so you’ll feel weightless and completely relaxed when you arrive at your destination.

3/7 Foodie's paradise

Despite all the tastings you did to ensure the food was perfect, chances are, you had little or no time to sit down and fully savour your meal during your wedding reception. On your Emirates flight, you can take your time to indulge uninterrupted on award-winning, multi-course meals. A white tablecloth is spread before you with silverware and little salt and pepper shakers before regionally-inspired dishes are brought out.

Departing from Casablanca in Morocco, for instance, you might find yourself savouring a warm bowl of harira, a heartwarming traditional tomato-based lentil soup, or a mezze platter with zaalouk (grilled eggplant and capsicum) and chakchuka (eggs cooked in tomato sauce) followed by your main of fish tagine made with Moroccan spices or, for something more familiar, chicken ragout.

Prepared by master chefs, they can be accompanied by your pick of cocktails, wines and juices, or just reach for a drink from your personal mini bar. Perhaps the only thing missing is candlelight, but you can dim the lights for effect with the mood lighting option on your control panel.

4/7 Feels at home

The Emirates’ Business Class lounge delivers endless pleasure and all the modern comforts you could possibly want in the moments before boarding your flight. With its modern design, it feels more like an exclusive club than airport lounge. At the bespoke Moët and Chandon lounge, savour the brand’s most exquisite champagnes as you nibble on canapés crafted by Michelin star chefs.

If you need more by way of sustenance, head to one of the restaurants where you can have your fill of an array of gourmet cuisine including healthy options such as smoothies and salads. There’s also complimentary premium beverages, Wi-Fi, entertainment and reading material as well as a Business Centre. Direct boarding straight from the spacious lounge means you can take your time to finish that freshly-brewed coffee before striding over to the departure gate.

5/7 Never one dull moment

Set the mood for a blissful honeymoon by catching a classic romance film or your favourite box office hit romcom from the highly-rated and newly upgraded inflight ICE entertainment system which also offers the latest box-office hit movies, world news, documentaries, games (including multi-player if you want a bit of healthy competition!) and audio entertainment. You’ll be spoilt for choice with over 2,500 channels of on-demand entertainment to enjoy together as you snuggle up after take-off.

Want to watch your wedding video all over again? Simply plug your device into one of two USB ports and relive the moments. Noise-eliminating Bowers & Wilkins headphones offer optimal audio, while content is delivered on a 23-inch high-definition LCD screen with touchscreen controls and LED backlight. All passengers enjoy 20MB of complimentary Wi-Fi but if you’re a Skywards members in Business and First Class, tap onto the unlimited complimentary Wi-Fi if you need to tie up loose ends at work or check on your pet pooch before you completely disconnect and give your other half your undivided attention.

6/7 Door-to-door service

It’s your honeymoon, so you should be treated like royalty, right down to your transfer to and from the airport. The partnership between Emirates and Mercedes-Benz extends to a complimentary chauffeur drive between your home and the airport and vice-versa, so you can journey in style.

7/7 Makes scents

Scents are powerful in creating the right mood, especially important when you’re on honeymoon. If you don’t fancy lugging your toiletries bag with you into the cabin, you can still smell, look and feel your best throughout your flight.

Emirates’ Business Class passengers will receive an exclusive Bulgari amenity kit bag that includes signature Bulgari fragrances and lotions, a compact mirror and other grooming essentials, for both him and her.
