The Japanese contemporary artist teased the anticipated project in an Instagram post

Infamous Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami has taken to Instagram to share what he has been up to lately: an upcoming collaboration with another well-loved Japanese icon, Hello Kitty.

The contemporary artist teased the collaboration with a single image showing Sanrio’s most famous character sitting next to a distinctly Murakami-style Panda character that closely resembles his previous collaboration with French fashion house Louis Vuitton.

The post, which simply read, “New collaboration w @hellokitty @sanrio” gives away very little as to how the collaboration will take shape but based on Murakami’s previous collaborations, there’s a good chance it will include apparel or accessories.

This teaser comes on the heels of another collaborative project announcement from Murakami. Earlier this week, the contemporary artist shared images of crystal and diamond-encrusted Murakami-style flower design necklaces in collaboration with celebrity jeweller Ben Baller.

Takashi Murakami is widely considered one of the most prominent contemporary artists of his time, which is no doubt in part due to his impressive amount of ongoing and previous consumer collaborations, which have included everything from Uniqlo and Casio to Louis Vuitton and Comme des Garcons.

While further details of the Takashi Murakami x Hello Kitty collaboration remain to be seen, there’s a good chance we’ll find out more directly from the artist’s official Instagram account. Until then, the teaser can be viewed here.
