If the world is a stage, is life a Cirque du Soleil show?
Cirque du Soleil is back in town and this time, the Quebec‑based entertainer brings to Singapore the eccentric world of Kooza.
Inspired by the Sanskrit word “koza”, which translates to “box”, “chest” or “treasure”, Kooza goes back to the quintessential acrobatics and comical theatrics that characterised Cirque du Soleil back in 1984, with its cast of 50 acrobats, musicians, singers and actors emerging from a magical box.
The storyline follows “The Innocent”, a representation of the child within us and the journey towards self‑discovery. As the show’s writer and director, David Shiner, explains, “Kooza is about human connection and the world of duality, good and bad.”
Since its premiere in Montreal in 2007, Kooza has been seen by over seven million people. In Singapore, it will be performed under the Big Top in Bayfront Avenue, next to Marina Bay Sands starting from July 12. With a live soundtrack that is a fusion of jazz, funk and Bollywood beats accompanying the laugh-out-loud antics and audacious stunts, this is a performance you won’t want to miss.
